The Koran approves of the Gospel as it Existed in Muhammad’s Day

The Koran

This is an argument that unless you know the details seems absurd.I myself used to think those who said it must be exaggerating, but they are not.If I were to say:”The Koran that is between my hands” then everybody would agree that I am referring to the Koran that exists today, that we have right now.

1.Now Jesus  and also Allah in the Koran use the exact same phrase but in reference to the Torah(3 examples). In fact Allah approuves of the Torah as it existed in Jesus’ time.

2.But that goes against official Islamic doctrine today that says the Torah of Jesus’ day was corrupted.

Here is the article

“The Koran, the Way it Expresses Itself, says the Torah of Jesus’ day was Alright, which Proves Islam to be False”

http://www.antisharia.com/2013/01/19/the-koranthe-way-it-expresses-itselfsays-the-torah-of-jesus-day-was-alrightwhich-proves-islam-to-be-false/

Example from Chapter 3

Chapter 3:45-50

“When the angels said, “Mary, God gives thee good tidings of a Word from Him whose name is Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary; high honoured will he be in this world and the next, near stationed to God.

He will speak to men in the cradle, and of age, and righteous he will be.”

“Lord,” said Mary, “how will I have a son seeing no mortal has touched me?”

“Even so,” God said, “God creates what He will. When He decrees a thing He does but say to it “Be,” and it is.

And He will teach him the Book, the Wisdom, the Torah, the Gospel,to be a Messenger to the Children of Israel saying, “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I will create for you out of clay as the likeness of a bird; then I will breathe into it, and it will be a bird, by the leave of God. I will also heal the blind and the leper, and bring to life the dead, by the leave of God. I will inform you too of what things you eat, and what you treasure up in your houses. Surely in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

Likewise confirming the Torah that is before me,

and to make lawful to you certain things that before were forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; so fear you God, and obey you me.”

The Torah

About phrase “confirming the truth of the Torah that is before me”

In Arabic it is “Wa musaddiqan lima bayna yadayya mina al-tawrati” which literally means “And I confirm the Torah that is between my hands“.That is to say the Torah that existed at the time of Jesus.

We have incomplete copies of the Old Testament found in Qmran, near the Dead Sea in Israel and they date from 150 BC to 70 AD.And they show that the Torah of Jesus’ time was practically the same as that we have today.

5.So that proves Islam false since the content of the Torah goes against the content of the Koran.

Here are 2 articles about the Qmran OT copies

And also in the VERY SAME chapter 3 Allah says to Muhammad:

Chapter 3:2-4

“God, there is no god but He, the living, the self-subsistent.

1.He has sent down to you the Book(Note:the Koran), in truth,

2.Confirming what was before it, and has revealed the Torah, and the Gospel before for the guidance of men,

and has revealed the Discrimination. Verily, those who disbelieve in the signs of God, for them is severe torment, for God is mighty and avenging.”

About the phrase “the Book(Note:the Koran), in truth, confirming what was before it, and has revealed the Torah, and the Gospel before”

1.The part that says “confirming what was before it” is “musaddiqan lima bayna yadayhi” in Arabic and it says, literally “confirms that which is between his hands(Note:those of Muhammad)”.

2.That is to say that Allah confirms/approuves,through Muhammad,of the version of the Torah and Gospel that Muhammad knew,in the 7th century. And those are the same versions that we have in the 21th century.

The Muslim counter-argument

1.In the very same chapter 3 of the Koran it says that there are clear verses and obscure verses.

2.Therefore the phrase “confirms that which is between his hands” is among the obscure verses and is not to be literally interpreted by must have a different meaning.

Here is the text

Chapter 3:1-8

It first begins with an obscure phrase, that has no meaning at all in Arabic:

“Alif, Lam, Mim”

Two articles about the incomprehensible, nonsense verses in the Koran:

http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Contra/perspicuity_letters.html

http://www.answering-islam.org/Books/Jeffery/mystic_letters.htm

Then it talks about the Torah and Gospel:

“God, there is no god but He, the living, the self-subsistent.

1.He has sent down to you the Book(Note:the Koran), in truth,

2.Confirming what was before it(Note:literally:”confirms that which is between his hands(Note:those of Muhammad)”

3.And has revealed the Torah, and the Gospel before for the guidance of men,

and has revealed the Discrimination. Verily, those who disbelieve in the signs of God, for them is severe torment, for God is mighty and avenging.”

Then it refers to the clear and obscure verses

“Verily, God, there is nothing hidden from Him in the earth, nor in the heaven. He it is who fashions you in the womb as He pleases. There is no God but He, the mighty, the wise.

He it is who has revealed to you the Book(Note:the Koran)

1.Of which there are some verses that are decisive/clear, they are the mother of the Book;

2.And others ambiguous;

but as for those in whose hearts is perversity, they follow what is ambiguous,

and do crave for sedition, craving for (their own) interpretation of it; but none know the interpretation of it except God.

But those who are well grounded in knowledge say, “We believe in it; it is all from our Lord; but none will remember save those who possess minds.O Lord! pervert not our hearts again when you have guided them, and grant us mercy from you, for you are He who grants.””

Why they argument is not good

In chapter 6 of the Koran there is also the phrase “confirms that which is between his hands“.

Chapter 6:92

“This is the Book(Note:the Koran) which we have revealed, a blessing

and a confirmation to those which were before it,

and that the mother of cities may be warned, with those who are round about her. Those who believe in the last day believe therein, and they unto their prayers will keep.”

About the phrase:” the Book(Note:the Koran) which we have revealed, a blessing and a confirmation to those which were before it”

1.The part which says “a confirmation to those which were before it” is “musaddiqu allathee bayna yadayhi” in Arabic, which means, literally:”confirms that which is between his hands(Note:those of Muhammad)”.

2.That is to say,an indirect way of making a reference to the Bible.

And also in the SAME CHAPTER 6

1.Just 22 verses later in the same chapter 6 Allah says that the Koran is clear,”explained in detail”

2.And of course, that which is clear, easy to understand, is the phrase “confirms that which is between his hands” of chapter 6:92.

3.The phrase is not one of the obscure, ambiguous verses of which chapter 3 refers to.

Chapiter 6:114

“Will I seek other than Allah for judge, when He it is who has revealed to you the Book(Note:the Koran), fully explained/explained in detail?

Those to who We gave the Book know that it is revealed from your Lord in truth. So be not of the waverers.”
