Soraya M in the Film

About Freidoune Sahebjam (1933 – 2008) who wrote book that inspired the film “The Stoning of Soraya M”

1.He was an Iranian journalist born in France,of Iranian parents, who wrote in French.

2.At 18 he went to live in Iran and left after Khomeini became ruler in 1979.

3.He has written many books in French against the Islamic regime in Iran and his most famous book is ”La Femme Lapidée’/The Stoned Woman”(1990),the true story about the last hours of Soraya M,a woman in Iran condemned to die by stoning because she was accused of adultery.

4.That book inspired the film “The Stoning of Soraya M”(2008) by Cyrus Nowrasteh.

5.His last book was “Reviens Mahomet, ils sont devenus fous: Chroniques de la barbarie islamique ordinaire/Come back Muhammad, they have gone crazy:Chronicles about Ordinary Islamic Barbarism” (2007). The title shows he thought real Islam and Muhammad had nothing to do with it all.

Read an interview of him about his book “Reviens Mahomet, ils sont devenus fous : Chroniques de la barbarie islamique ordinaire”.

He actually thought traditional Islam has nothing to do with the human-rights abuses in the Muslim world, for him it is a bad interpreation of Islam.
