Queen Rania of Jordan in a Video says the Koran does not Subjugate Women, she has Apparently Never Read It
Fareed Zakaria is a Muslim intellectual from India who had an interview with Queen Rania of Jordan. There she made 2 affirmations about Islam and women that any impartial analysis shows are false.
Who is Queen Rania?
She is a Palestinian and does not wear the veil.Rania Al-Yassin was born in 1970 and is the wife of King Abdullah II of Jordan. She was born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents. She married in 1993 and has 4 children,2 sons and 2 daughters. She has a youtube channel with many videos about Islam and other subjects which has turned out to be very popular.
In Jordan,a country named after the Jordan river, where Jesus was baptized,60% of the population is Palestinian and they have Jordanian citizenship, they are not refugees and should not be counted as such.

He was initially for the 2003 Irak war and later greatly criticized the way Bush was handling the situation.
I had written an article about how he is not a good expert on Islam:
Queen Rania has never read the Koran, apparently
Affirmation no 1 of Rania
Around second 43 of the interview Zakaria says to her that people say “Islam has placed women in a subordinate and subjugated role. How do you react to that charge?”
Rania:”I,personally, think that Islam in and of itself does not subjugate women and does not hold them back.”
Affirmation no 2 of Rania
Around minute 1:35 she says:”It is not necessarily that you have to look at Islam itself.Holy Scripture does not hold women back.”
In the Koran a Muslim woman(and a Muslim man) can be the slave of another Muslim
The citations in this article about women in the Koran are not exhaustive, there are even more. Here a 2 examples that say a Muslim woman can be the slave of a Muslim man.
“Do not marry idolatresses, until they believe(Note:become Muslim); a believing slavegirl is better than an idolatress, though you may admire her.
And do not marry idolaters, until they believe. A believing slave is better than an idolater, though you may admire him.”
“Anyone of you who has not the affluence to be able to marry believing freewomen in wedlock, let him take believing maids that your right hand owns(Note:Muslim female slaves).”
Question to Rania
How can approving of having a Muslim woman or any woman as a slave not be subjugation and retrograde?
Verses that a Married Muslim can have Sex with a Slave Woman to who he is Not Married (2 of 4 Examples)
Does Rania not know of all this after years of living in Islam?
It begins by Muhammad as a Example.Notice that a in other cultures a married man sleeping with a woman to who he is not married (whether she is his slave or not) would be commiting adultery.
What is adultery? The Different Definition of Adultery in the West and in the Koran
For us and in the Koran it is for a married man to sleep with a woman with who he is not married.
But if the woman is the slave of the Muslim man, then, for the Koran,it is not adultery. For us it is still adultery.
“O Prophet, We have made lawful for you(note:for sex):
1.Your wives who you have given their wages
2.And what your right hand owns (Note:slaves), spoils of war that God has given you,
3.And the daughters of your uncles paternal and aunts paternal, your uncles maternal and aunts maternal, who have emigrated with thee, and any woman believer, if she give herself to the Prophet and if the Prophet desire to take her in marriage, for you exclusively, apart from the believers.
4.We know what We have imposed upon them touching their wives and what their right hands own (note:slaves)that there may be no fault in you; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate………………………..Thereafter women are not lawful to you(Note:for sex), neither for you to take other wives in exchange for them, though their beauty please you, except what your right hand owns (Note:slaves); God is watchful over everything.”
Notice that 2 times there is a distinction of the women into 2 different groups:
a.The wives of Muhammad
b.And his female slaves, which he had got through war.
So Muhammad could sleep with a woman who was not his wife,it was not adultery,if she was his slave.
Again there is the Distinction between the Wife of Muhammad and his Slaves
“O believers, enter not the houses of the Prophet, except leave is given you for a meal, without watching for its hour. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have had the meal, disperse, neither lingering for idle talk; that is hurtful to the Prophet, and he is ashamed before you; but God is not ashamed before the truth. And when you ask his wives for any object, ask them from behind a curtain; that is cleaner for your hearts and theirs. It is not for you to hurt God’s Messenger, neither to marry his wives after him, ever; surely that would be, in God’s sight, a monstrous thing.Whether you reveal anything, or whether you conceal it, surely God has knowledge of everything.
There is no fault in the Prophet’s wives touching their fathers, their sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, and what their right hands own. And fear you God; surely God is witness of everything.”
“Prosperous are the believers who in their prayers are humble and from idle talk turn away and at almsgiving are active and guard their private parts(Note:for sex) save from their wives and what their right hands own (Note:slaves) then they are not guilty.”
