Introducing Naomi Chambers,Atheist Critic of Islam
Naomi Chambers is an atheist who has several videos on youtube against Islam. She has written a 5 part essay about Islam and slavery that appeared in 2010 in the famous anti-Islam website called faithfreedom.org.It is a website created by ex-Muslim Ali Sina, from Iran.It is one of the most popular anti-Islam sites in the world and I highly recommend it.
Naomi Chambers has also written a book called “The Atheist Guide to Understanding Islam”.In her 5 part essay she mentions slavery in the Bible but in my humble opinion has not investigated the subject well enough. So here I add details.
Regarding Slavery in Mosaic Law
In Judaism it is said:
1.That God made astonishing miracles in front of the very eyes of the Jewish people year after year:parting of the sea, plagues of Egypt, miraculous feeding of the Jews, etc.
2.Then the Jews were given the option of saying yes or no to if they wanted to become the Chosen People of God or not.If they said yes they had to accept Mosaic Law.
3.If they said yes and obeyed Mosaic Law God would protect them.If they disobeyed him he would take it away.
4.The Jews knew that there were some 12 or more capital punishment laws in Mosaic Law:for adultery, blasphemy, apostasy, etc.
5.In Judaism Mosaic Law is only and only for the Jews, never, ever for non-Jews.Salvation for the non-Jews or 99% of the world population is through the 7 Noahide Laws, none of which say anything about capital punishment. Here are the 7 laws:
1.Prohibition of Idolatry
2.Prohibition of Murder
3.Prohibition of Theft
4.Prohibition of Sexual immorality
5.Prohibition of Blasphemy
6.Prohibition of eating flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive
7.Establishment of law courts
8.So if the Jews had said NO to Mosaic Law (613 laws in total),to becoming the Chosen People, they could still get salvation through the 7 laws of Noah,or Noahide Laws.
9.The reason why the Jews in Moses’ time accepted Mosaic Law was based on evidence(the numerous miracles) that Yahweh was truly God.Their decision was not based on the word of a Moses and nothing else but on the miracles they say the God of Moses accomplished
The Jewish Slave as really an Indentured Servant
If a Jewish man was in debt to another Jew and could not pay he had to pay back by working freely for him for 6 years and was automatically free on the 7th year.Or if he could not work his daughter or son would do it.
In colonial times many English men and women had their passage to the 13 colonies paid by somebody and to pay back their debt they had to work for him for free for several years. They were called indentured servants, not slaves.
There were foreign slaves in Mosaic Law but in reality Mosaic Law has the most startling laws regarding slavery of any code.It literally says that a slave who escapes his master is free and also every 50 years all the slaves were automatically free.Read about it here:

Two Laws not Mentioned in the Article:Death for Slavetraders
Deuteronomy 24:7:
“If someone is caught kidnapping a fellow Israelite and treating or selling them as a slave, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.”
Exodus 21:16:
“Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession.”
The Essenes
The way the different Mosaic laws are stated it becomes clear that slavery in itself is condemned.Since slavetraders are in effect also slaveowners for a time then condemnation of slavery in itself is implied strongly. These and other things led the religious Jewish group called the Essenes (200 BC till 70 AD)to be practically the first group in history to 100% condemned slavery by principle. They were against it and numbered 4,000,according to 1st century AD Jewish historian Flavius Josephus.
Christianity and Mosaic Law
In the NT it is stated by Paul that Mosaic Law is fulfilled by the New Alliance of Jesus.Even if Paul had never become a follower of Jesus he would have said:”Mosaic law is only for the Jews, never for the Gentiles.”So in Christianity all the Mosaic laws about slavery were surpassed 2,000 years ago.
All the Koranic Passages on Slavery
In fact, the Koran makes freeing a slave conditional on the will of the master. That is not the same as saying the idea or principle of slavery is bad.Read about it all in:
